General Info

The around 4.600 squarekilometer big island is counted to the "Small Sunda Islands". It is seperated
from Bali by the 35Km broad "Strait of Lombok". It lays on the east of the "Wallace Line" (after the
scientist Sir Alfred Wallace) which determines the climatic, zoological and botanical border between
the islands; while Bali tends to Asia but Lombok more to Australia. Anyhow this borderline can not clearly be
determined, on Lombok we find a very different fauna and flora then on Bali.
On Bali we mostly find plants and animals out of Asia and on Lombok many species out of the australo-pacific
regions. The culture is very different too. In opposition to the hinduistic Bali most people on Lombok
are Muslims. Holidays on Bali can easily combined with a trip to Lombok to experience two very
different Islands and cultures.
