The Gili's

On the Northern upstream of Lomboks west coast are the three, famous Gili islands: Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan, a "must" for the fans of snorkeling and diving. There are many nightstays and all diving clubs offer tours in the area. Especially Gili Air with it's intact reefs is worth a visit. The islands can be reached from the port in Bangsal, about 1 hour drive from Mataram away. The journey costs about 70 euro cents. Room prices range between 5 euros and 100 euros per night. There are no cars or motorcycles on the Gili's. The way for a lift there are the "Chidomo" (horse-drawn carriages) and bicycles. Internet access and telephone are awailable. The Mobilephone access is satisfactory everywhere on the Gili's. There is no police at the Gili's, only a private security initiative named SATGAS. For law violations the culprits are transferred to the authorities on Lombok.
